I’ve had a great schooling session

I have had a good past week keeping Bobby’s fitness up to scratch and making sure everything is looking good for next weekend.
I have spent a lot of time hacking and galloping to keep a good balance of work and rest for Bobby. I think it’s very important to have this balance, as if you only do work your horse may become badly behaved and result in working backwards rather than progressing.
I have also had a great schooling session this Monday where my dressage seems to be coming together better than I had previously thought.
Having changed diet onto competition mix Bobby seems to have lightened up and enjoy working in the school more. I wouldn’t suggest this for everyone as it depends on the horse and how much energy they need.
I normally start feed, like competition mix about a week in advance of a big competition, but as I am going to be Eventing all summer I shall switch just to this diet of show mix (for his coat), competition mix (for his energy) and sugar beat (for his weight) to get the best possible balance for a heavy competition load.
Five day’s until my Riding Club Horse Trials where I will be looking to qualify for the final at Aston-Le-Walls British Eventing venue.
I shall be at Broadway competing which is also a BE venue and will carry out all three disciplines of Eventing: Dressage, Show jumping and Cross Country, it will be an ODE so all disciplines on the same day.
I shall now bang in all last minute preparations this week with a final lesson on Saturday with my Eventing Coach Robert Stevens. Next Tuesday I shall let you know how I got on!
